Reddit Cuts RSS and API Access to Block AI Scrapers

Reddit is moving to shut down RSS feeds on Nov. 13 and phase out public API access for outside applications by March 2027, according to the company’s latest platform policy shift. The stated goal is to curb automated scraping by AI systems and other third parties that rely on open data pipelines.

The decision highlights a broader tension across the internet economy: platforms want tighter control over their content while still monetizing it through licensing deals. Reddit has argued that scraping bots are extracting value without permission, even as it has entered agreements to license its content to AI companies.
