Fnality Adds Ex-Central Bankers to Supervision Board

Fnality has added three former central bankers to the supervisory board of its European unit as it works to extend its blockchain-based settlement network beyond sterling payments.

Jon Cunliffe, the former deputy governor of the Bank of England, is among the new appointees. He is joined by Jochen Metzger and Ron Berndsen, both of whom bring experience in central banking and market infrastructure oversight.

The appointments underscore Fnality’s effort to strengthen governance as it pushes beyond its initial focus on sterling-denominated payment systems. For a company building institutional settlement rails, board composition can carry as much weight as product development, particularly when the target market includes banks and other regulated financial firms.

Fnality has positioned itself as a bridge between traditional finance and distributed ledger technology, with a model designed to support wholesale payments and settlement. Expanding into additional currencies would broaden its addressable market, but it also raises the bar on compliance, operational resilience and regulatory alignment.

The addition of seasoned central banking figures may help Fnality signal credibility to prospective partners and regulators.
